Weekend Fun

TJ has been traveling a LOT recently, so we try our best to make the weekends count.  Here is a little catch up on some of our weekend fun.
In January we decided extremely spur of the moment to drive up to Island Park (about 1.5 hours from Idaho Falls) to Winterfest.  We heard about it Friday afternoon, and drove up Friday night.  It's this huge event they have every year with snowmobile tricks/contests, snocross races, snow carving contests, etc.  Some of the events were cancelled because they hadn't got enough snow for it, but the snocross still happened.
Since we left later on Friday night we didn't make it for any of the events, but we made it just in time for fireworks!  Then we spent the night up in West Yellowstone at a hotel.  It was such a nice weekend away together :)
That Saturday morning we went to the snocross races.  It's basically motocross with snowmobiles.  If TJ had grown up somewhere with a lot of snow, this is totally what he would have done.  It looks like a lot of fun :)  They had all ages, from little kids to adult pros.  It was so much fun to watch!

There were these awesome snowmobile bikes that TJ was really wanting to try out :)
Road trippin.  Havin' some fun in the car :)
This is just to demonstrate how stinkin' cute my hubby is.  One week he was in Boise and we literally passed each other in the car when he was on his way home and I left for work.  When I got home, I found this sign over our parking spot, cleverly weighed down with rocks wrapped in tape :)
When it snowed one night he ran out BARE FOOT and made this little heart for me.  He was so excited to play in the snow!
Another weekend we went to the park down the street from our place and swung on the swings and just walked around.

A few weeks ago we had pretty decent weather, so we got out our discs and played some frisbee golf!  It was still a little chilly, but we had a blast!

Those are a few things we've been up to on the weekends!  Sure love getting to spend time with my hubby!

A little perspective

Warning: this post is "churchy"

Life's been a little crazy for us the past little while, to say the least.  I went to a Relief Society conference put on by our stake on Wednesday night and came away with a little change in my perspective.
Our stake president talked about the scripture in Moroni 7 that talks about charity - charity suffereth long, is kind, envieth not, rejoiceth not in iniquity, endureth well, etc.  He pointed out that if there is nothing to suffer, how do we develop charity?  If there is nothing to envy or be jealous of, how do we develop charity?  If there were no evils or temptations surrounding us, how do we develop charity?  If we don't have anything to endure, how do we develop charity?
I had never really thought about it the way he said it.  It gives a greater perspective, especially as we go through trials.  We are given opportunities to grow.  This applied directly to me.  I'm sure he said all that specifically for my sake.  I've been trying really hard to see these trials as opportunities to grow, and it really has been great to rely so heavily on the Lord, to exercise faith, and receive answers to prayer, but it was still really hard.  All this talk about developing charity was the little part of my answer that was missing.  The perspective it brought to my life has made all the difference.
That doesn't mean it's not hard.  It is still hard to endure and suffer and seek the good among so many temptations, but I know that it is the best way to become more like the Savior, and I know He helps us in our trials.  Perspective can change everything.

Happy Valentine's

TJ and I made these yummy cookies this weekend to give away to people (and eat way too many ourselves...) to celebrate Valentine's day.
TJ even made a little man for me complete with his little cinnamon heart :)  His arms and legs didn't survive long enough for a picture...
TJ and I have never been together, or even in the same state on Valentine's day.  He was usually gone with track, and the one time he wasn't I was gone for a friend's wedding, and right now he's traveling for work.  So we just pick whatever day works for us and celebrate Valentine's day then :)  I'm so glad we have a special day set aside to celebrate the ones we love.  Especially this guy, for me :)
Happy Valentine's Day!
