Our second trip of the summer was camping in the Grand Tetons with Brad and Angie, but I already blogged about that one :) It was back in June.
A few days after returning from our camping trip we went up to Canada to Waterton Lakes National Park. All of my mom's siblings and their children (minus my siblings) got together to celebrate my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary. Waterton is my favorite place in the world. Growing up we went there every summer for our family vacations. It is incredibly gorgeous, you constantly enjoy the outdoors and wildlife, and I have so many memories there.
I bought Hunter this coloring book for the way up. It was worth its weight in gold! He colored for 2.5 hours straight!! It was amazing.
The weekend we were up there was incredibly cold and windy but we still enjoyed every moment outside we could! We loved going for walks, and throwing all the rocks we could. That is an every day, multiple times a day activity for our family :)
Hunter loved riding on Grandpa's shoulders!
Bear's Hump is a very popular hike in Waterton. It's only about 3/4 of a mile but it's quite steep. The elevation gain is about 787 feet. Most of the way is switchbacks with stairs to help with the incline. The top overlooks the entire town of Waterton and you can see all the way down Waterton Lake into the USA.
It is notoriously windy on the top, but I have honestly never been so cold on the top of Bear's Hump! It was seriously freezing up there that day.
Pass Creek is our favorite spot to do a weiner roast and throw rocks! Hunter was in heaven.
This kid is nearly impossible to keep out of the water! He will wade in as far as he can go and think nothing of it. Even with all his shoes and clothes on. TJ started building this little rock wall to keep Hunter out of the water. It was great!
Then others saw the rock wall and decided they wanted to help make it even more awesome.
By the end of construction, we ended up with Fort Hunter! Complete with a flag.
After everything was cleaned up, the big boys decided they wanted to have a competition. TJ, my dad, and my uncle Burns found the biggest rocks they could feasibly throw and had a contest to see who could throw their rock over their head backwards and hit the rocks on the other side. Boys will be boys :) TJ won the competition. It did end pretty funny because my Dad threw so hard that he ended up falling over backwards!
My mom was nice enough to let TJ and I sneak away one night while Hunter was sleeping. We went and got some ice cream/sherbet (even though it was freezing) and walked by Cameron Falls. I love going for walks in Waterton!! Especially with my love.We went up to Cameron Lake to take pictures on Sunday afternoon. Hunter, of course, threw plenty of rocks.
He also had the cutest, adoring rock suppliers that were always so happy to get more rocks for him :)
Our family was saying that we've never seen so much snow this late in the year up at Cameron Lake. It seriously felt like the middle of winter up there. So cold!!
My uncle Norris realized that he is Hunter's great uncle Norris - g.u.n. His gun :) Hunter loved him!! They were cute buddies.
This is looking down Waterton Lake from the Prince of Wales hotel. Hunter loves his grandma!
We spent an afternoon at the park. Hunter loved swinging high with Daddy!
We also spent some time inside in my grandparents' hotel room playing with cousins/aunts/uncles, and collecting fun rocks and sticks just outside :)
That was our quick weekend in Waterton! Straight from there we went to our next destination, coming soon!
